Winter Wonderland

Finally some moisture!! The golf course is been covered with 6-8 inches of snow since Sunday, January 9th. Snow coverage will help protect the course from the severe low temperatures and the melting process should help return a little moisture back into the soil. Some bluegrass may have been lost under tree lines due to tree roots taking all the available water from the shallow rooted grass. As temperatures rise in late March and the ground thaws, an assessment can be made about the health of the bluegrass roughs under trees.

The maintenance staff has tried out the new snow plow attachment on the clubhouse parking lot and we like the results so far.

With the heavy snow coverage and the frigid temperatures of the new year,  the staff has been busy working indoors on the following tasks:

1.  sanding and repainting the ballwasher stands and the igloo drink stands
2. tabulating our monthly gas and diesel consumption in preparation of sending the annual fuel reports to Kansas Health and Environment for 2011 permit renewal
3. identifying all the sprinkler yardage markers on hand and the new markers needed to update the golf course for the upcoming season
4. relocating decorative plant material in the clubhouse to the maintenance shop for cleaning while the clubhouse is under renovation
5. meeting with KCP&L and Westar field reps in an effort to establish future electrical power sources for new fans at greens #2,3,11 and 15.
